Millers release five as preparations start for 2021/22 season

Five players released by boss Paul Warne as Millers prepare for life back in League One following relegation from the Championship

ROTHERHAM United have released five senior players following the end of 2020/21 season, meanwhile, two senior players have been offered
new contracts. The retained list by the club was announced today and defenders Billy Jones and Clark Robertson are amongst the five that have been released by the Millers today.

Midfielder Shaun MacDonald and strikers Jamie Proctor and Kyle Vassell have also been released and will move on to pastures new this
summer.

Rotherham’s management team have opened talks with defender Matt Olosunde and goalkeeper Josh Vickers, both out of contract this
summer, over, extending their stays with the club. 

Striker Proctor spent four years at the AESSEAL New York Stadium, much of the time he was hampered by injuries, meanwhile, Vassell has been on loan at Fleetwood Town and Jones on loan at Crewe. Robertson had always been expected to seek a new challenge elsewhere this Summer, meanwhile, in a post on Instagram at the weekend, MacDonaldsignalled his departure. All five players who have been released were part of the League One promotion winning squad during the 2019/20 season.

Also in close season of changes, loanees, Lewis Wing, George Hirst, Jamal Blackman, Ryan Giles, Florian Jozefzoon have all returned to
their parent club following the conclusion of their loan deals at the AESSEAL New York Stadium. Speaking to the club’s website, manager Paul Warne, expressed his appreciation to the players leaving the football club: “It goes without saying that it is a sad time of the year when the team splits up, you never get the same dressing room the following year.

“The lads who are leaving have all played a part in previous seasons and I would like to place on record my thanks to each and every one of them for their efforts during their time with us.

“We ask a lot of our players here and they are always happy to step up and perform for our great club and our town. On behalf of the players,
staff and supporters at Rotherham United, I would like to sincerely thank each and every one of them and wish them nothing but success for the
future.

“On behalf of everyone at Rotherham United would like to thank each and every player for their contributions to the club during their time at
AESSEAL New York Stadium, and we wish them all the best for the future.”

Viktor Johansson, Joe Mattock, Richard Wood, Ben Wiles, Freddie
Ladapo, Chiedozie Ogbene, Jamie Lindsay, Kieran Sadlier, Trevor
Clarke, Wes Harding, Michael Ihiekwe, Angus MacDonald, Michael
Smith, Matt Crooks, Dan Barlaser, Joshua Kayode, Curtis Tilt, Mickel
Miller, Jake Cooper, Jacob Gratton, Jake Hull, Jerome Greaves.


Players out of contract and subsequently leaving Rotherham United (5):
Billy Jones, Shaun MacDonald, Jamie Proctor, Clark Robertson, Kyle
Vassell.


The club are in discussions with the following players about potential new deals (2):
Matt Olosunde, Josh Vickers.

2020/21 season loanees returning to their parent clubs (5):
