OVERNIGHT CLOSURES ON A630 PARKWAY

The Rotherham to Sheffield A630 Parkway will have a series of overnight closures between 22 February to 7 March, ahead of construction beginning to improve the road.

The section between Catcliffe Junction and the M1 Junction 33 will have closures of one carriageway at a time. Signs will divert traffic along alternative routes.

From Monday 22 February until Friday 26 February the westbound carriageway will be closed between 8pm and 6am the following morning, to allow initial carriageway repairs.

To allow traffic management measures to be implemented ready for the start of the planned improvement works, the eastbound carriageway will be closed over night from Monday 1 March to Wednesday 3 March; the westbound carriageway will then be closed overnight from Thursday 4 March until Saturday 6 March. These closures will also take place between 8pm and 6am the following morning.

On Sunday 7 March there is a possibility that either the eastbound or westbound carriageway will be closed between 8pm and 6am the following morning. Whether this is needed, and which carriageway it applies to, will depend on the progress of the work on the preceding nights.

During closures of the eastbound carriageway (Sheffield to M1) traffic will be diverted via Rotherham; Europa Link, A631 Shepcote Lane, M1 Junction 34 Tinsley, A6178 Sheffield Road, A630 Centenary Way and A630 West Bawtry Road.

During closures of the westbound carriageway traffic (M1 to Sheffield) will be diverted via Rotherham; A630 West Bawtry Road, A630 Centenary Way, A6178 Sheffield Road, M1 J34 Tinsley, A631 Shepcote Lane and Europa Link.

After these closures, the Catcliffe Junction to M1 Junction 33 section of the A630 will then operate with narrow lanes while construction continues.

The work is part of a £46million improvement programme that will create extra lane in each direction between Catcliffe Junction and the M1 (within the road’s existing footprint) and widen the roundabout and slip roads at M1 Junction 33.

Rotherham Council’s Interim Head of Transport Infrastructure, Andrew Moss said: “We are grateful to road users and local residents for their patience. We and our contractors are taking all possible steps to ensure the project is completed as quickly and safely as possible, and to minimise any disruption.”

Rotherham Council’s cabinet member for jobs and the local economy, Cllr Denise Lelliott, said: “It’s great that work is now underway. The A630 Parkway is a vital connection between Rotherham and Sheffield, and with the M1. These improvements will reduce congestion, pollution and journey times, benefitting the region’s residents and businesses.”

In addition to these carriageway full closures, a series of lane closures will take place to enable work to be completed safely. More details can be found at www.rotherham.gov.uk/parkway-upgrade

The repair works will be carried out by Rotherham Council.

The improvement work is being carried out on behalf of Rotherham Council by its contractor Balfour Beatty, and funded through Central Government from the Local Growth Fund.. The Council and Balfour Beatty are working closely with stakeholders including Highways England, Sheffield City Council and the Environment Agency to deliver the scheme.
